No Land’s drawings and paintings illustrate the mercurial, the mysterious, and the impermanent. Earthly matter turns to ether, as the artist seeks contact with another world—more based in spirit than in stone. Utilizing fragile, shape shifting materials such as dusts, chalk, and iridescent metallics, the works express an inner state of seeking. No Land’s works are imprints more than declarations–they are attempts at contact with a divine immateriality. They circumvent the confines of the material world and investigate the artist’s own inner sense of mystery. Some pieces are prayers–others are translations, turning the miniature explosions of earthly events and persons into dust. No Land shares a birth date with the poet and musician Sun Ra and resonates with his mission of “tuning the planet” through art.

“She is a vision seamstress, winged. The works of No Land are mercurial and always moving. Poem scrolls and fragments are laid out on a table. The reading begins and with eyes closed or open, No Land reads the work like they are tea leaves or tarot cards. An hourglass stands beside a rock holding the papers down. The sand travels in both directions, suspended in the unfurling oracle of words. Lines from other poets appear. Yet within the context of No Land's voice they are given new meaning and power. The aperspectival, cutup, collage is taken to its terminus, and then set out on foot; they return to their ever-present origins, being born anew, integrated, continuously. Nothing stays what it is. The work changes form. The poem becomes a drawing and the drawing a song that is hummed while painting. In No Land's creations, all words, sound, and image are the energy that vibrates behind all appearances. The veil is removed."
